Shadow of the Cross
The shadow of the cross,
‘Tis a blessed place indeed,
Beneath the wings of the Almighty,
Sheltered and cared.
But many don’t make it to the shadow,
For they stand far off,
Looking at the blood stained cross,
Wondering if it is worth it all.
Some come running,
Touched by the Saviour’s love,
Willing to lay it all on the Altar.
But the journey uphill tires their hearts,
And the treacherous pathway trips their footing.
Alas, Lord, How do we get to the cross at all!?
“Lose it all”, said He,
For only then can you lay hold of the cross.
“Fix your eyes on me”, he motioned with his hands,
“For only then can you stay the course,
And when you can’t go on any more,
Let go, and let me carry you home!”
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
